What you’ll need to buy

Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2)*

This is the game system/hardware necessary to run the DDR game.

It’s kind of like a DVD player.

Microphone for PS2 x 2

A microphone compatible with your PS2 is necessary to play KR. Konami and Logitech brands are readily available to order online, but can be difficult to find in stock at retail stores. Bundle packs containing both the microphone and a KR game version are sometimes available at a discounted price. Two microphones are necessary to sing in “duet” mode.

8 MB Memory Card

This is a small rectangular plastic card which loads into the front of the PS2. It will record game data and “unlock” new venues and song titles after a period of successful game play. This is not absolutely necessary for playing the game, but it is recommended.

Karaoke Revolution Game

This is the software. Currently, there are a number of different KR game versions available, each with varying song selections and game features. Whichever version of the game you buy, make sure it is for the PS2 game system. Cost is dependent on how recently the game version was released**.

Where you can buy Karaoke Revolution Equipment

The PS2 and memory card may be purchased at your local Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, Game Stop, or anywhere else video game systems and accessories are sold. They may also be purchased online at any number of websites, including Amazon and Best Buy online. Karaoke Revolution games and microphones for the PS2 are sometimes more difficult to find in retail stores, but are available at a number of online sites. Everything else you need to play KR is probably already available at your school, and is outlined below.

What else you need to play Karaoke Revolution, but probably already

have at your school

TV or Media Projector

You’ll need either a TV or media projector (most schools have one of these in their computer labs or administrative offices) with A/V (audio/visual) input ports. This is what you’ll plug the A/V cord from the PS2 into for viewing the game. Full details are provided on the next page about how to set up your PS2.  Note that for larger classes (20+ students), a media projector is preferable for showing the game because it will allow you to project a very large image of KR onto a wall or screen so everyone can easily see.

Sound System

While your projector or TV may provide adequate sound for a small group setting, we recommend plugging the audio output from the PS2 into a sound system if you are going to play Karaoke Revolution in a full class setting. This will allow everyone to easily hear the music and lyrics.

The next page provides an overview of how to set everything up. You may also refer to the directions included with your PS2.

*KR game versions are also available for systems which compete with the PS2, including Microsoft’s X-Box and Nintendo’s Game Cube. However, as of this writing, there are more game versions available to play on the PS2.

**Some game versions which are no longer available in stores like Best Buy are actually listed for resale on sites like eBay and Amazon.com at prices higher than new release KR versions. This phenomenon is unusual in the video game market.
