Before running this game in a class setting, it is important to play it yourself to get a feel for how it works, and become comfortable with game features, pitch and phrase meters, and changing song selections. These specific instructions are provided for the KR Party game version.

· The controller is your navigation device. The up and down, and side to side directional arrows on the left side of the controller allow you to scroll through menu options. The X button on the right side of the controller allows you to select a highlighted option — kind of like an “enter” key on a computer. The triangle button allows you to return to the previous screen — it’s your “back” key.

· Upon launching the KR game, you may press X to skip through opening game credits and go to the KR title screen. Press the Start button to get to the main menu.

· First time on the game — Use the directional arrows to scroll down the main menu to Extras. Press X to select. Training mode should be highlighted. Press X to select this mode.

Note: Training mode is a great introduction to Karaoke Revolution. It clearly explains the pitch arrow, note tubes, phrase bar, and generally how to play the game. It offers you a chance to try out what you learn by singing part of a song.

· At the end of Training Mode, you will automatically go to a screen which offers a chance to retry training, or exit out of this mode. Use the directional arrows to highlight your preference, then press X.

·  Once you exit Training Mode, you’ll be automatically returned to the Main Menu screen. Use the directional arrows to scroll up to Quick Play which is a game mode that allows you to practice what you just learned. Press X to select Quick Mode.

· Once in Quick Play mode, you’ll go through several screens which will prompt you to make some choices before you sing your song. The first screen allows you to select your player character, song choice, and venue option. Use your directional arrows to change the character to your liking, then scroll down to highlight Select Song. Press X to access all song options, complete with sound clips which are triggered as you scroll through. Press X to select the song you want to sing. Finally on this screen, you may select your venue, or just leave it at the default. Scroll down to highlight continue and press X.

The second screen allows you to select your
song type and judging level. Under song type, you have a choice of a short or full version of your selected song, or you can select a practice version of you song which will not give you judging feedback, but this version will prevent you from being booed off the stage, should you have difficulty singing. For judging level, use your side directional arrows to choose from easy, medium, hard, or expert. (We always set this at easy for younger students.)

The third screen is your microphone check. The default setting is fine, and provides vocals which makes singing the song easier for students. Highlight and select
ready by touching X to sing your selected song.

· After you finish singing your song selection, you will receive a score if you elected to sing a short or full song. From there, touch X to sing again, or select a new song. If you were singing a practice song, you will be prompted to either perform it, practice it again, or select a new song. Use your directional arrows and the X button to make your choice.

· Emergency game restart. If at any time you want to restart the game in the middle of a song and get back to the title screen, touch the Start and Select buttons simultaneously.
